HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-04-22 Proclamation 2a City of Iowa City PROCLAMATION Whereas, the coming of Spring produces a renewal of interest in tree planting for beauty, shade, conservation, and many other purposes beneficial to all people, and Whereas, the observation of Arbor Day has long been characterized by the planting and preservation of trees, and Whereas, we hope that the future will see the creation of a better environment through the use of trees throughout our cities, towns and countryside. Whereas, trees in Iowa City beautify our community, increase property values, and enhance the economic vitality of business areas, Now, therefore, i, Ernest W. Lehman, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim Friday, April 25, 2003, to be Arbor Day in Iowa City, and I hereby urge all citizens to participate in tree planting and preservation projects throughout the year. Now, Therefore, I, Ernest W. Lehman, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim April 27-May 3, 2003, to be Volunteer Week in Iowa City, and urge citizens to contribute to their community. City of Iowa City PROCLAMATION Whereas, The National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Iowa City Historic Preservation Commission are co-sponsoring Historic Preservation Week; and Whereas, historic preservation gives Americans a deeper understanding of their richly diverse architectural and cultural heritage; and Whereas, historic preservation promotes local community pride in America's towns, cities and rural areas; and Whereas,Iowa City has many historically and architecturally significant neighborhoods, homes, commercial buildings, and public structures, which contribute to the quality of our life; and Whereas, it is important to protect and preserve our city's historic resources for the use and enjoyment of current and future citizens; and Whereas, Historic Preservation Week provides an opportunity for all Iowa Citians to celebrate our community's historic treasures; Now, therefore, I, Ernest W. Lehman, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim May 5-12, 2003, to be Historic Preservation Week in Iowa City and call upon the people of Iowa City to recognize and participate in this special observance.
