Work Collaboratively with Johnson County and other stakeholders to launch a community violence prevention effort in close cooperation with local law enforcement Johnson County Attorney Rachel Zimmermann Smith and Johnson County Community Violence Intervention Coordinator Jes Lang presented a PowerPoint on the following: Why did this Start in Johnson County? r 2017-2022 10 out of 12 Homicides: Manner of Death was fatal gun shot wounds ➢ Gun Violence is a growing problem. ➢ Gun related weapons charges —Johnson County ➢ ICPD Street Crimes Unit—Shots Fired Statistics ➢ Murder &Attempted Murder Charges Johnson County ➢ What is Community Violence Intervention (CVI)? ➢ Johnson County CVI Executive Stakeholders Committee ➢ Who is involved in the work of CVI? ➢ Who is the focus of community violence intervention (CVI)? ➢ The Strategy ➢ The Goals/Outcomes ➢ Roles & Commitments from Community Partners ➢ Key Values ➢ What can you do? (IP4: Pending City Council Work Session Topics) Councilor Dunn requested to add City Charter discussion to the Pending Work Session Topics list. City Attorney Goers October 17, 2023 Page 2 and City Manager Fruin provided additional information about the upcoming 10-year review by the Charter Review Commission in 2024. Individual Council members expressed their views. Action: A discussion item on the City Charter will be added to the Pending Work Session Topics list. 5. University of Iowa Student Government (USG) Updates. Noah Le Fevre, USG Liaison, and Matthew Monsivais, USG Alternate Liaison presented updates. 6. Council updates on assigned boards, commissions, and committees Council members reported on various assigned boards, commissions, and committees. Adjourn 4:47 p.m.
