Hi There!
My name is Elizabeth Marilla-Kapp(she/her), I am the Program Manager for the Mobile Crisis Response Team at
Community and the Co-Chair of the Johnson County Suicide Prevention Coalition, alongside Mary Issah of NAMI--Mary is
cc'd on this email. I believe I have crossed paths with most of you at some point in the past several years!
The Johnson County Suicide Prevention Coalition rebooted early this year after a Covid-related hiatus. We have over 50
members--professionals and those with lived experience--from across the community(schools, UIHC, LE jurisdictions,
nonprofits, grassroots orgs). We gather monthly as a large group to share resources and updates from our respective
contexts; plan prevention and awareness events; and to strategize about new inter-professional collaborations. Our
committees also meet monthly to generate new ideas and work on special projects--our Lethal Means group is working
to provide gun safety supplies and education to providers in speciality and primary care settings; our Awareness team is
just beginning to organize Mental Health First Aid training that we hope to make accessible to laypeople and the
community at large; and our Postvention Committee is building a resource guide and coordinating crisis peer support for
suicide loss survivors.
We are writing to the council to inquire whether one of you may be interested in serving as a liaison to the coalition. If
there is interest, I would be happy to chat further about what that might entail. We will also be reaching out to the
leadership of other municipalities in our county and to the JoCo Board of Supervisors.
Thanks for considering!
Elizabeth
