HomeMy WebLinkAboutMedia Production Services CoordinatorUpdated: August 2025 (Admin Review) CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Media Production Services Coordinator Department: City Manager’s Office Division: Communications Supervisor: Communications Coordinator FLSA: Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 26 Job Number: 2614 Job Summary Manages and oversees the City’s media production services, government and community video production, audio/visual and digital program production, and post-production. Facilitates program cablecast and distribution of City programs. Reviews and determines media standards including systems design, quality control, production priority and production staff assignments. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Manages the Community Television Service (CTS) including collaboration with community organizations to aid completion and delivery of television programming to meet community information needs. • Receives production requests and maintains records of community client production, support, and programming activities. • Prepares periodic reports regarding City media productions and other activities. • Provides recommendations for the annual budget. • Researches and recommends equipment purchases for media production and post- production. • Performs and supervises video production including studio and field production, lighting, production planning, set design; photographic projects, script writing, consultation, audio/visual production, and the set-up and dismantling of equipment in a safe manner. • Develops appropriate training programs and materials. • Operates and/or troubleshoots a variety of video, audio, electrical and mechanical equipment. • Performs general equipment maintenance. • Coordinates and/or provides media support services for other City departments and access channels including audio visual equipment use, recommendations, troubleshooting and maintenance. • Coordinates photo identification for new employees. • Conducts self in a professional manner which demonstrates courtesy and respect for all community members and coworkers. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution; or four years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in videography, video editing, audio mixing and recording, scripting, TV studio production and multi-media graphics. Experience working with the public. • Valid State of Iowa driver’s license with satisfactory driving record required. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution and one year of related experience; or five years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in cable access television, management, and computer databases. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and measurements. • Ability to prepare written annual reports, bid documents, and to understand accounting documents required. • Ability to read and understand written technical materials in order to perform production activities. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties. • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. • Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems required. • Ability to write directions, routine reports, and provide oral instructions. • Knowledge of basic videography, scripting, editing, audio, and lighting techniques. • Skill in making minor electrical and mechanical repairs. • Skill in operating a variety of specialized electronic and video equipment. • Skill in using computers and applicable software applications (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook) • Skill working with the Internet and computers, current non-linear computer editing, digital field and studio acquisition equipment and audio recording equipment required. Supervision Involves leadership role such as regularly guiding, training, and providing direction to permanent staff in completing daily tasks and assignments.
