HomeMy WebLinkAboutMWI - Parking SystemsUpdated: August 2025 (Admin Review) CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Maintenance Worker I – Parking Systems Department: Transportation Services Division: Parking Supervisor: Operations Supervisor FLSA: Non-Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 4 Job Number: 0423 Job Summary Under immediate direction, performs work of routine difficulty in the cleaning and maintenance of City parking facilities and equipment. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Cleans, including bodily fluids, sweeps, dusts, waxes and mops restrooms, windows and floors in City parking facilities, lobbies, booths, ramps, stairs, elevators, vacuums carpets, empties rubbish and wastepaper from offices. • Collects trash and removes debris from City ramps and parking lots. • Maintains City parking equipment and spitters including changing light bulbs, filling ticket spitters, changing central units and dispensers; performs routine repairs on equipment and gates, as needed. • Replaces equipment in cashier booth, repairs and maintains signs and equipment. • Performs substitute cashier duties in parking ramps; receives parking tickets from customers, collects money and makes change in the City's parking facilities. • Provides customer service through providing information and helping customers find their vehicles. • Assists persons that are stranded in elevators. • Provides grounds maintenance, trims bushes and trees, removes graffiti, and paints areas. • Removes snow and ice from lots, ramps, and public spaces. • Operates street sweeper, sander, trucks, front-end loader and other related equipment. • Provides for safety and security of facilities and requests assistance from supervisors or law enforcement. • May issue parking citations inside the ramp, as needed. • Conducts self in a professional manner which demonstrates courtesy and respect for all community members and coworkers. • Performs other duties as assigned. Updated: August 2025 (Admin Review) Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school education or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in building maintenance. • Valid State of Iowa driver’s license with satisfactory driving record. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass a criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school education or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. • Ability to follow oral and written instructions. • Ability to make simple mathematical calculations and make change. • Ability to read and understand work orders and maintain written job records. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties. • Ability to work independently. • Knowledge of custodial materials and equipment. • Skill in the operation of various equipment including two-way radios, cash registers, computers, floor scrubbers and wet vacuums. Supervision No supervision of direct reports.
