HomeMy WebLinkAboutMWII - Transportation ServicesUpdated: August 2025 (Admin Review) CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Maintenance Worker II – Transportation Services Department: Transportation Services Division: Parking Supervisor: Operations Supervisor FLSA: Non-Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 5 Job Number: 0504 Job Summary Participates in the repair and maintenance of City parking meters, facilities, and related equipment. Collects parking revenue. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Schedules preventive maintenance for garage entrance and exit equipment, including ticket spitters, gates, point of sale devices, ramp lighting, automated pay stations, meters, cases and posts. • Troubleshoots and repairs the mechanical operations of the above equipment. • Diagnoses and solves electrical problems with the entry and exit equipment. • Receives and investigates complaints of malfunctioning parking meters and performs necessary maintenance. • Maintains and organizes an adequate inventory of parts and tools. • Maintains a weekly record of meters repaired and replaced. • Cleans and maintains facilities and equipment. • Collects parking meter money. • Assists with painting projects in the downtown area including painting parking stalls, crosswalks, parking lots/ramps in the downtown area. • Obtains and sets up equipment, tools and materials needed for work. • Drives pickup trucks and operates specialized equipment such as blades, sanders, sweepers and skid loaders. • Collects facility trash and removes hazards, such as broken glass. • Performs plumbing and electrical repairs, repairs and/or reports vandalism. • Pulls weeds, cleans work site and spills, builds forms, mixes, pours and finishes concrete. • Performs safety checks on vehicles, equipment and tools, completes incident reports, inspection sheets and other forms. • Impounds vehicles. • Performs parking cashier duties on occasion, receives parking tickets from customers, collects money and makes change in the City’s parking facilities. • Removes snow and ice from lots, ramps, and other public spaces. Updated: August 2025 (Admin Review) • Provides for safety and security of facilities and requests assistance from supervisors or law enforcement. • Conducts self in a professional manner which demonstrates courtesy and respect for all community members and coworkers. • Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school education or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment • Valid State of Iowa driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. Must be 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school education or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in general construction skills involving electrical, plumbing, and concrete work. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. • Ability to read technical manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties. • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. • Knowledge of electrical communications network, small motors, pulleys, belts, LCD displays, detection loops, terminal power supply boards, transmitters and electrical detectors required.
