HomeMy WebLinkAboutReceptionist - Senior CenterUpdated: August 2025 (Admin Review) CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Receptionist – Senior Center Department: Senior Center Division: Senior Center Supervisor: Senior Center Coordinator FLSA: Non-Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 2 Job Number: 0203 Job Summary Under direct supervision, assists staff in the Senior Center. Greets the public, responds to questions, offers appropriate assistance and performs other clerical duties. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Provides customer service and staff support for routine tasks including financial transactions, information referrals and copying requests for public and staff. • Processes Senior Center memberships, parking permits and parking ticket sales; collects fees and donations; issues receipts, issues membership cards, enrolls participants in classes and assists with locker rentals. • Makes appointments for legal counseling, Senior Health Information Program and tax preparation services. • Assists with marketing materials and mailing distribution. • Helps stock, track and maintain inventories of operational supplies. • Helps track, tally, record and prepare reports on Senior Center participation. • Assists public with the copy machine and does copying for staff. • Sorts and delivers incoming mail. • Conducts self in a professional manner which demonstrates courtesy and respect for all community members and coworkers. • Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school education or G.E.D. or pursuit of degree and one to three months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in customer service. • Must pass criminal background check. Updated: August 2025 (Admin Review) Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • High school education or G.E.D. and four to six months of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with computer systems. • Certification in CPR and the use of an external automated defibrillator. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties. • Ability to write simple correspondence. • Knowledge of basic office equipment, filing and sorting techniques. • Skill in using computers and applicable software applications (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook). Supervision No supervision of direct reports.
