HomeMy WebLinkAboutUtility Billing Coordinator - RevenueUpdated: August 2025 (Admin Review) CITY OF IOWA CITY – JOB DESCRIPTION Position Title: Utility Billing Coordinator - Revenue Department: Finance Division: Revenue Supervisor: Revenue & Risk Manager FLSA: Non-Exempt Civil Service: Yes Pay Grade: 10 Job Number: 1001 Job Summary Under general direction, prepares the weekly utility bills. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. • Enters information into computer system for weekly utility billings. • Monitors, analyzes, adjusts, and verifies accuracy of utility billing information; resolves problems with high and low water meter readings or bills. • Signs up customers for services and answers questions and complaints from the public and City employees concerning City policies and procedures regarding utility services; directs unanswered problems and inquiries to appropriate City personnel. • Establishes utility payment plans in accordance with City policy. • Assists wastewater with billing calculations and enters into Munis system and mails notices to customers. • Establishes and maintains various correspondence files and statistical data; composes and types variety of correspondence. • Performs utility bill adjustments; updates record accordingly. • Generates deposit refunds for final utility bills. • Assesses late fees on delinquent utility bills. • Conducts self in a professional manner which demonstrates courtesy and respect for all community members and coworkers. • Performs all other related duties as assigned. Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Associate’s degree from an accredited educational institution and one year of related experience; or three years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in utility billing, managing software, or related. • Must pass criminal background check. Updated: August 2025 (Admin Review) Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution; or four years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in utility billing and software management for water utility industry. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. • Ability to operate standard office equipment. • Ability to read and understand technical materials, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. • Ability to reliably and predictably carry out duties. • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. • Knowledge of utility billing procedures. • Skill in using computers and applicable software applications (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook), Munis system, and financial management software. • Skills in trouble shooting software issues. Supervision No supervision of direct reports.
