HomeMy WebLinkAboutDecember 2024 utility insertsIowa City Lead Reduction Program The new Federal Drinking Water Lead and Copper Rule Revisions took effect on October 16, 2024 and are a comprehensive update to the Lead and Copper Rule enacted in 1991. The City has created a Lead Reduction Program to inform residents about the risk of lead exposure in drinking water from home plumbing materials, require the replacement of broken lead water service pipes, and provide resources to mitigate the liabilities associated with lead or lead contaminated home plumbing materials. To learn more visit icgov.org/water. Choose sustainable gift wrap such as last year’s gift-bags, old newspaper or maps, fabric, or reusable cloth bags. Most store-bought wrapping paper is not recyclable. Kraft paper is a recommended alternative. Recycle old holiday lights now through Jan. 5 at the East Side Recycling Center (via ReStore Donations), the Iowa City Landfill and Recycling Center, and City Hall (bin located outside of front entrance). Compost your natural holiday tree at the curb at no additional cost (curbside customers only). Remove all decorations and do not put the tree in a plastic bag. Properly dispose of all batteries, including alkaline, lithium, and rechargeable, at battery drop-off sites. View Iowa City locations at icgov.org/HHM. What CAN’T be recycled at the curb?
