Permanent full-time position available
Wage: $59,716.80 – $76,460.80 (starting wage contingent upon experience)
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm
Job summary:
Under general direction, installs, repairs and maintains electronic traffic controllers, vehicle and pedestrian
detection equipment, video monitoring equipment, computer systems and other hardware used in traffic control.
Installs and maintains streetlights and collects traffic count data as needed.
Minimum Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
Associate’s degree from an accredited educational institution and two years of related experience; or four years
of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree as Electrician.
Experience in electrical work. Satisfactory driving record. Valid State of Iowa commercial driver’s license
instruction permit upon first day in position. Valid State of Iowa Class A commercial driver’s license with air
brake endorsement within 6 months of hire. Meet federal drug testing requirements. Requires a pre-
employment drug screen. Must be 18 years of age. Must live within 25 miles of the corporate limits of Iowa City,
Iowa within one year of appointment to the position. Must pass criminal background check.
Preferred Education, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution and one year of related experience; or five years
of related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. State of Iowa Certified
Journeyman Electrician License.

Entry-level Driver Training (ELDT) for employees who need to obtain a required CDL is provided by
the City. Employees are provided paid time to complete ELDT and to take required CDL tests.
