Hourly Customer Service Program Job Openings
The City of Iowa City Recreation division is accepting applications for positions within the
Customer Service Program. Hourly Customer Service Program staff assignments may include the
following:
Tot Time Attendant
$15.00 per hour
Position will start in September 2025
Definition of Work: Assists the Recreation Program Supervisor in administrating the Iowa City
Parks and Recreation Tot Time program. Duties include but not limited to; program set up and
take down, daily inspection and cleaning of equipment, collection of program fees, oversee and
lead general activities, enforce program rules and policies, maintain a safe and clean area, and
communicate with participants of any upcoming events or announcements. Performs other duties
as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older. Previous experience working with
children. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to interact and engage with diverse user groups. Must be able
to provide transportation. Must pass criminal background check.
Hours of Operation: Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays, 9:00am -12:00pm at the Mercer Park
Aquatic Center
Customer Service Attendant
$15.00 per hour
Definition of Work: The employee performs a variety of duties to ensure all patrons have a
positive experience utilizing the recreational facility for open play, special events and
reservations. This position is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the facility during
its hours of operation and taking the lead in addressing any issues that arise. Duties include but
are not limited to: greeting and checking in patrons, answering phone calls and directing
inquiries, replying to emails, enforcing facility policies, rules, and regulations and registering
patrons for activities, meeting rooms and park shelters. Additional responsibilities include
maintaining a clean and organized appearance of the facility, performing routine cleaning tasks,
conducting facility safety checks, attending to the needs of rental groups and birthday parties,

completing incident and accident reports, resolving patron complaints, and supervising patrons
in a large recreation center. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications: Effectively communicate general information and enforce policies and
procedures. The role also requires performing various office duties, including typing, filing,
answering phones, replying to emails, working with our registration software, and completing
other tasks as assigned. This position may require work at both the Robert A. Lee Community
Recreation Center and/or the Mercer Park Aquatic Center/Scanlon Gymnasium, so applicants
must have reliable transportation to these facilities.
Candidates must be able to work one or two Saturdays per month. The candidate must be able
to remain pleasant yet firm when enforcing policies with the public. Hiring is contingent upon
passing a criminal background check to ensure the safety of Recreation Center patrons.
Additionally, the candidate must obtain CPR/First Aid/AED certification within six
months of hire.
Hours of operation: Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 9:00pm
Saturday, 6:00am – 8:00pm
Sunday, 11:00am – 8:00pm
Customer Service Specialist
$16.00 per hour
Definition of Work: Employee performs a variety of duties to ensure all patrons have a positive
experience utilizing recreational facility for open play, special events and reservation. The
person in this position ensures that weekend operation of the facilities run smoothly and takes
the lead in handling issues as they arise. Duties include but are not limited to: greet and check in
all patrons who enter the facility, answer the phone and direct calls, reply to emails, enforce
facility policies, rules and regulations, and register patrons for activities, meeting rooms and
park shelters. Maintain a clean and neat appearance of the facility, perform routine cleaning
tasks, conduct facility safety checks, attend to the needs of rental groups and birthday parties,
complete incident and accident reports, resolve patron complaints and supervise patrons in a
large recreation center. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older. Previous experience working in
customer service and in a supervisorial capacity is required. Must be able to perform various
office duties including typing, filing, answering phones, answering emails, working with our
registration software and other tasks as assigned. Ability to manage and supervise facility
activities and users; effectively communicate general information and enforce policies and
procedures is essential. This position may require work at both Robert A. Lee Community
Recreation Center and/or Mercer Park Aquatic Center/Scanlon Gymnasium so applicants must
have the ability to transport themselves to these facilities. Must be pleasant yet firm with the
public when enforcing policy. Hiring is contingent on passing a criminal background check to
protect the interests of Recreation Center patrons. Must obtain CPR/First-Aid/AED certification
within six months of hire. Must pass criminal background check.

8:00pm
