I, CITY OF IOWA CITY COUNCIL ACTION REPORT June 3, 2025 Establish a "No Parking Any Time" parking prohibition on the 200 Block of Lafayette Street approximately 170 feet east of S Dubuque Street. Prepared By: Madelyn Stoen, Associate Transportation Planner Reviewed By: Kent Ralston, Transportation Planner Jason Havel, City Engineer Mark Rummel, Associate Director of Transportation Services Tracy Hightshoe, Neighborhood and Development Services Director Fiscal Impact: None Staff Recommendation: Approval Executive Summary: As directed by Title 9, Chapter 1, Section 3B of the City Code, this is to advise the City Council of the following action: Pursuant to Section 9-1-3A (10); Establish a "No Parking Any Time" parking prohibition on the 200 Block of Lafayette Street approximately 170 feet east of S Dubuque Street to the end of the public right-of-way. Background / Analysis: This action is being taken at the request of the Transportation Services Department. The on - street parking area, located between the underground parking access to 'The Hive' building (700 S. Dubuque Street), is too short to safely accommodate a parked vehicle. However, due to high parking demand in the area, motorists continue to park in this area, leading to visibility and access issues. Prohibiting parking in this area will allow for the installation of 'No Parking' signage and reduce the need for staff enforcement. This change will not remove any formal/legitimate parking spaces on Lafayette Street.
