HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-09-15 Public hearing/~, Publish 8/28 NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING ON INTENT TO PROCEED WITH A PUBLIC IMPROVEMENT PROJECT, AND TO ACQUIRE PROPERTY RIGHTS FOR THE SYCAMORE STREET FROM LANGENBERG AVENUE TO DEFOREST AVENUE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT IN THE CITY OF IOWA CITY, IOWA TO ALL TAXPAYERS IN THE CITY OF IOWA CITY, IOWA, AND TO OTHER INTERESTED PERSONS: Public notice is hereby given that the City Council of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, will conduct a public hearing on its intent to proceed with a public improvement project and to acquire property rights for the Sycamore Street -Langenberg Avenue to Deforest Avenue Improvements Project in said City at 7:00 p.m. on the 15`h day of September, 2009, said meeting to be held in the Emma J. Harvat Hall in City Hall in said City, or if said meeting is cancelled, at the next meeting of the City Council thereafter as posted by the City Clerk. The Sycamore Street - Langenberg Avenue to Deforest Avenue Improvements Project will include the reconstruction of Sycamore Street from the south City limit line to Burns Avenue. The project will also include pavement patching from Burns Avenue to US Hwy 6, new traffic signalization at the US Hwy 6 and Sycamore Street intersection, a turning lane addition at the Sycamore Street / US Hwy 6 Intersection (north of Highway 6), and installation of an 8' wide sidewalk along Sycamore Street from US Hwy 6 to Deforest Avenue. Property rights acquisition may include temporary construction easement, permanent easement, and / or fee simple. The City may acquire part or all of properties or an interest in properties by condemnation for the public improvement. The City has provided funding in its budget for this project, as well as funding to acquire any property rights that may be needed for the project. In making the decision to fund the site-specific design for the public improvement, to make the final selection of the route or site location, or to acquire or condemn property rights, if necessary, the City Council is required to hold a public hearing, giving persons interested in the proposed project the opportunity to present their views regarding the decision to fund site-specific designs for the project, make the final selection of the route or site location, or to acquire or condemn, if necessary, property or an interest in property for the project. City Council will be required to approve the project and authorize acquisition of private property rights for the project by Council resolution. The City Council is scheduled to consider adoption of a resolution authorizing acquisition of property rights for this project following the public hearing. Documentation of the proposed location of said improvements is now on file in the office of the City Clerk in City Hall in Iowa City, Iowa, and may be inspected by any interested persons. Persons may also contact City of Iowa City Public Works Department Project Engineer Dave Panos at 410 East Washington Street, Iowa City or by phone at 356-5145 regarding questions pertaining to this public improvement. Any interested persons may appear at said meeting of the City Council for the purpose of making objections to and comments concerning said intent to proceed with and to acquire property rights for said public improvement project.
