Modification of Bus Loading Zones for the Downtown Transit Shuttle
As directed by Title 9, Chapter 1, Section 3B of the City Code, this is to advise the City Council of
the following action. Unless directed otherwise by the City Council, this action will occur on or
shortly after November 21, 1997.
Action
Pursuant to Section 9-1-3A(18) of the City Code, signage will be installed designating the existing
commercial loading zone on the east side of Clinton Street north of the intersection of Washington
Street as a Bus Loading Zone Only from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday-Friday. This designation will
extend from the south end of the loading zone to a point 60' north. The existing bus loading zone
on the east side of Clinton Street south of the intersection of Washington Street will be returned to
a commercial vehicle loading zone.
Comment
This action is being taken at the request of the Transit Division to better accommodate downtown
Shuttle Route riders. The current Shuttle Route loading zone in front of the Iowa State Bank
building is not long enough to sufficiently accommodate the Shuttle Route bus without disrupting
traffic. The proposed loading zone will allow the bus to pull completely out of the traffic lane,
providing a safer situation for riders and better traffic flow on Clinton Street.
