~[tJK~, Doris and William Preucil have, since 1958, shared their
knowledge and love of music with hundreds of students at all levels
of age, talent, and dedication to the art of string playing; and
~ll)~r~, Doris Preucd was a pioneer in the int~tuctiun of the Suzuki
method of teachi-g young people how to play the violin and was
one of the first Suzuki teachers in the United States; and
~tr~, the Preucils opened the Preucd School of Music on January
2, 1975, and transformed the former Czechoslovakian Hall in
"Goosetown" into a biidwest Mecca for string students of all ages;
and
~II~K~, W;!ham Preucil retired in May, 1996 from the faculty of the
University of Iowa School of Music and, whereas, Doris Preucil
retired as director of the Preucil School of Music in August, 1997;
and
~t~l~, more than 40 Preuci[ School alums are returning to Iowa
City to perfos,, in a Gala Concert on January 18, 1998, at
Hancher Auditorium to honor Doris and William Preucil for
sharing their love of music with so many people.

Iowa Memorial Union for her countless hours of working on
legislation on behalf of the women of Iowa, and

the Emma Goldman Clinic, its dedicated staff, and its faithftd
volunteers have made over the past twenty-five years.
