HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998-02-24 Proclamationl ~l~f~rf~a~, the Iowa City Road Races, Inc., a corporation organized under the Nonprofit Corporation Act, as an affiliate of Road Runners Club of America and sanctioned by USA Track and Field, has as its mission to promote and encourage fitness for all individuals through running and physical fitness; and i~11~rl~af~, the Iowa City Road Races, Inc., has, as a secondary mission to annually organize, promote, and execute events designed to raise funds to be contributed to charitable, religious, or educational tax-exempt organizations who share in the Iowa City Road Races mission; and ~i~l~r~a~, the 21st Anniversary of the Hawkeye Medical Supply Hospice Road Races was celebrated with a fall festival of events including the 21st Annual Hospice Road Races, Sunday, October 19, 1997; and i~l~lert~a~ the City of Iowa City has been instrumental in the success of this annual community event that has raised over $1,202,000 in vitally needed dollars for human service agencies and has hosted over 47,000 participants; and i~7eV~, the 4th Annual Hospice Hurray, held Monday, February 23, 1998, in Iowa City, celebrated the volunteers, fund raisers, sponsors, coordinators, and directors that contribute to the success of the Hospice Road Races; and f~l~l~l:l~a~, the outstanding commitment of the City of Iowa City has significantly contributed to the national distinction of the Hospice Road Races as the largest multi-venue race per capita in the country, one of the top 100 road races in the country, and one of the major fund raising races in the country, tljl~l:£f0re, I, Ernest W.
