Black Americans, for in recogni~i-g thei~ strengths and talents we

in the City of Iowa City and encourage all citizens to take. part in
activities occun4ng throughout the month commemorating the
achievements of Black Americans.

Volunteer Blood Donor Month by members of the American
Association of Blood Banks, the America~ Red Cross, and the
Co~ncil of Comm--ity Blood Centers, and'-..~
~, perhaps the most noble form of charity is the gift of donating
blood to a stranger in need, and
~l~re~, donating blood is a safe and rewarding experience that may
well save the life of someone in ore: comm~-ity who is suffering
from illness or injury, and
~lj~r~ag, we wish to join in observing this event by encot~raging all
citizens of Iowa City to not only donate blood at thla time but
several ~imes each year, so that o~ comm~-~ity maintains an
adequate snpply of this llfe-glving resource,

R.--ers Club of America and sanctioned by USA Track and Field,
has as its mission to promote and ancouvage fitness for all
individuals +h~ough running and physical fitness; and
~ta~, the Iowa City Road Races, Inc., has, as a secondary ~ni~sion
to annually organize, promote, and execute events designed to.raise
fun& to be conL~rihnted to chari~able, religious, or educational
tax-exempt organizations who share in the Iowa City Road Races
mission; and
~g~g, the 20th Anniversary of the Parsons Technology Iowa City
Hospice Road Races will be celebrated with a fall festival of events
including the 20th ~-nual Parsons Tech-ology Iowa City Hospice
Road Races, Sunday, October 13, 1996; and
~I~, the City of Iowa City has been ins~-~ental in the success of
thla ~nual comm-nlty event that has raised over $985,000 in
vitally needed dollars for h.man service agencies and has hosted
nearly 38,000 participants; and
~l~:~g, the outstandlrtg co~mlt. C~ent of the City of Iowa City has
sig-ificantly contvlbuted to the national distinction of the Hospice
Road Races as the larges~ multi-venu.e race per capita in the
count~-y, one of the top 100 road races m the country and one of
the major fund raising races in the
