Washington St., Iowa City, IA 52240; 319-356- 5156 ORDINANCE NO. 96-3733 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE FINANCES, TAXATION, AND FEES CHAPTER OF THE CITY CODE BY AMENDING TITLE 3, CHAPTER 4, SUBSECTION 6, ENTITLED "PUBLIC TRANS- PORTATION," TO INCREASE THE FARES FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. WHEREAS, in the past, the City of Iowa City has supplemented the operation of public trans- portation with federal operating assistance; and WHEREAS, the federal government has now reduced the operating assistance available to the City of Iowa City, thereby requiring a fete increase. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF 10WA CITY, IOWA: SECTION I. Section 3-4-6, Title 3, Chapter 4, Subsection 6, "Public Transportation" of the City Code should be and is hereby amended by repealing Section 3-4-6, "Transportation", "General Fares and Rates," more specifically entitled "Standard fare, general public" and "Monthly pass, general public", and enacting in lieu therefore a new Subsection 3-4-6 to be codified to read as follows: Description of fee, charge, bond, fine or penalty Bus 'n Shop coupons $0.35 General Fares and Rates Standard Fare, 0.75 General Public School Field Trip 0.40 Monthly Pass 25.00 Special Fares Monthly Pass for 20.00 Low-Income Persona Amount of fee, charge, bond, fine or penalty Ordinance No, 96-3733 Page 2 Elderly persons Low-income Elderly Persons with Disabilities Strip Tickets (10 rides) Charges for Use of Facilities and/or Per- sonnel Use of City transit vehicle, per vehicle, per hour Use of City transit operator, per hour Use of City transit vehicle and operator, per hour SECTION II. REPEALER. 0.35 non-peak hours Free nonpeak hours Free non- peak hours 6.50 per strip ~)30.00, plus fuel tax surcharge 15.00 45.00, plus fuel tax surcharge All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict with the provi- sions of this Ordinance are hereby repealed. SECTION I11. SEVERABILITY. If any section, provision or part of the Ordinance shall be adjudged to be invalid or unconstitutional, such adjudication shall not affect the validity of the Ordinance as a whole or any section, provision or part thereof not adjudged invalid or unconsti- tutional. SECTION IV. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Ordi- nance shall be in effect July 1, 1996 after its final passage, approval and publication. as provided by law.
