This letter serves as notice of my resignation from the Iowa City Human Rights Commission
effective immediately.Due to travel obiigations for my current position, I am unavailable for many
of the committee meetings and recognize the need for a more involved commissioner to take my
place. I have appreciated the opportunity to work with the other commissioners, the council and
the community on important human rights issues and I wish the committee continued success.
Sincerely,
Cat Fribley

Advisory Board/Commission Application Form
Attachment for application of Katherine B. Gloer
Experience and/or activities which you feel qualify you for this position:
I have been an active member ofthe Board of Directors of the ICPL Friends Foundation since August
of2001, and will begin my second tenn this summer. During my tenure on the Board, I have served
on the Executive Committee as an officer (Secretary), as chair of the Special Events Committee, and as
co-chair of the Fundraising Committee after the Special Events and Fundraising Committees were
combined last year. The Fundraising Committee planned and hosted the first annual "Building the
Collection" fundraiser on May 2, 2004, and this event raised $30,000 for the Library collection. As a
member of the Strategic Plamúng Committee, I participated in the development of new mission and
vision statements for the Foundation. In 2003, I also assisted with the revision of the Foundation's By-
Laws. If appointed, I believe that the valuable experience that I have gained through my work on the
Friends Foundation Board has prepared me for assuming an active and contributing role on the Board
of Tmstees. Additional relevant experience associated with my position as a Ph.D.-level associate
research scientist at the University includes service as a book reviewer for the Journal of Natural
Products, and as co-chair of the Planning Committee for an international conference of the American
Society of Pharmacognosy that was held at the IMU in 1997. Over the past eight years, I have also
been an active volunteer in my children's schools.
What is your present knowledge ofthis advisory board?
I have studied the job description for members of the ICPL Board of Tmstees, and am familiar with the
duties, responsibilities, and qualifications necessary for effective participation as a Board member. I
have spoken with several past and present members of the Board about this position, and feel confident
of my ability to work creatively and cooperatively with this talented team of people. Through my
service on the Friends Foundation Board, I have developed a working relationship with Trustees
Magalhães, Schnack, Suter, and VanDusselldorp, as well as fonner Trustees Hennessey and
Singennan.
What contributions do you feel you can make to this advisory board (or state reason for
applying)?
I feel that my experiences as a member of the Friends Foundation Board have familiarized me with
Library operations and personnel, and have provided me with a range of skills and knowledge that is
directly relevant to the work of the Board ofTmstees. I am excited at the prospect of working with the
Board to develop innovative solutions to the challenges associated with maintaining, enhancing, and
promoting our wonderful Library. I have lived in Iowa City for 20 years, and am ~na~
supporter of the ICPL. I would consider it an honor and a privilege to have the oP._ ;ty tfR;erve on
the Board of Trustees. :> =:; é=
