STATEMENT TO THE IOWA CITY CITY COUNCIL
We the commercial property owners along North Gilbert wish to thank the Council for
trying to have our commercial properties removed from being listed on the National
Registry of Historic Places as part of the proposed Gilbert-Linn Historic District. It is our
impression, based on input from various sources including legal counsel, that the only
way likely to accomplish the above goal is to have the Gilbert-Linn package returned
t?om the State Historical Society to Iowa City. Then the plan can be altered by re~noving
the commercially zoned area and subsequently resubmitted to the State Historical
Society.
It is our understanding that this will cost the City of Iowa City $3,600.00. We feel
strongly enough about this situation, that we are more than willing to pay the $3,600.00
and save Iowa City this expense.
