founding of the League of Women Voters of the United States;
and
I/~h~t/, the League of Women Voters, whleh was founded in 1920 to
help 20 ,,,illlon new women voters carry out their new
res10onsibilltles, has w,o. rked for 75 yea~s to be a voice for citizens
ana a force for change, and
i~;t~, the League of Women Voters has provided nonpartisan
information on candidates and issues for elections, encouraged
voter registration and informed voting, helped generations of
voters understand the structure and function of gover~,,~ent,
provided nonpartisan, balanced info~,ation on l~ublie tzoIicy issues
to citlzan~ and worked to achieve gover~,nent poiieies that promote
public interest; and
~I~er~g, the local League of Women Voters and the Iowa League of
Women Voters were established in 1920 to this same end; and
i~er~l/, we wish to recognize the contributions made by the League of
Women Voters over the past 75 years;
t~tl~tfilrt, I, Susan M. Horowitz, Mayor of the City of Iowa City,
Iowa, oa behalf of the City Council do hereby extend heartlest
congratulations to the members of this organiza~on on the
occasion of their a,~,~iversary and we offer best wishes for the
continued success of the League in the future.
