Pilgrim Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is very appreciative
of the Proclamation of September 17 through 23rd as Constitution week. It will be
displayed at our Constitution week meeting, which observes the 211th
anniversary of the signing of the document.
Four women - two southern and two northern, founded the national society
Daughters of the American Revolution in 1890, when the Sons of the American
revolution rejected their application for membership. Their goal was to heal the
terrible wounds still bleeding from the Civil War. The founders believed that a
call to the common bond - the ancestors, who fought together in the
Revolutionary war to liberate us and found our Country, would be a unifying and
healing process.
DAR objectives are:
Historic Preservation
Promotion of Education and
Patriotic Endeavor
Pilgrim Chapter was chartered in 1898 in Iowa City and Celebrated their
Centennial in February. Membership is open to interested individuals who want
tot trace their lineage to a revolutionary ancestor. We welcome interested
individuals at our meetings.
We have also chartered a chapter of children of the American Revolution, which
is open to all children up to the age of 18. No DAR application is required.
THANK YOU
