hereag, Special Olympians have a strong desire to compete and win;

goals and attempting to reach them; and
~f~I~l~rl~as, Special Olympians recognize the joy, pride and self-worth,
humility and disappointment, inherent in organized competition; and
~reas, Special Olympians appreciate the benefits that healthy
competition and physical activity can bring; and
~{~l~rl~s, Special Olympians give the entire community a chance to gather
and share in their spirit of accomplishment;

~I~erea~;, the Iowa City Road Races, Inc., a corporation organized under the
Nonprofit Corporation Act, as an affiliate of Road Runners Club of
America and sanctioned by USA Track and Field, has as its mission to
promote and encourage fitness for all individuals through running and
physical fitness; and
i~I[leretlS, the Iowa City Road Races, Inc., has, as a secondary mission to
annually organize, promote, and execute events designed to raise funds
to be contributed to charitable, religious, or educational tax-exempt
organizations who share in the Iowa City Road Races mission; and
~llere0t~, the 22nd Annual Hawkeye Medical Supply Hospice Road Races, the
Inaugural Habitat for Humanity Run for Shelter, the DVIP-ICRR Run
for Jodi Hnisentruit, the Rotary Run/Walk, the PALS 5K RudWalk,
and The Equal Justice Foundation 5K Run/W~, was held in the City
of Iowa City; and
~]~t[~lereaS, the 22nd Annual Hawkeye Medical Supply Hospice Road Races,
raised more than $149,000 for Iowa City Hospice, as the lead agency
and the agencies of United Way; and
~l[!ll~rl~, the City of Iowa City has been instrumental in the success of these
annual, community events; and
~I~eretl~, the 5th Annual Hospice Hurrah, to be held Monday, March 8,
1999, at the University Athletic Club, will celebrate the volunteers, fund
raisers, sponsors, coordinators and directors that contribute to the
success of the Hospice Road Races, and all other Iowa City Road Race
events,

As President of the Iowa City Road Races
and a veteran of all 22 races, we wish to invite
you all to the 5th annual Hospice Hurrah to be
held Monday, 8 March 1999 at the UI athletic
club where we will give thanks to our
community, volunteers, fundraisers and
sponsors that contributed to the success of the
22"a Annual Hawkeye Medical Supply Hospice
Road Races & the events for which we consult.
Mayor Ernie Lehman will be on hand as he was
on Hospice Race Day - to read this fine
proclamation.
We celebrate having raised I million 351
thousand dollars since we became the premiere
fall ]Iowa City event fundraiser for iowa City
Hospice & Agencies of United Way and we have
hosted over 50,000 participants to our fine City.
