in the United States House of Representatives, state legislatures
and local governments, and is the basis for the allocation of
billions of dollars of Federal funding; and
~r~s, the U.S. decennial Census is required by the Constitution of
the United States; and
~~s, the City of Iowa City is committed to a full and accurate
Census count and is placing special emphasis on ennmerat;-g
members of'traditionally undercounted population groups; and
~r~s, the goal of the 2000 Census is 100 percent participation by
all Iowans, including all residents of Iowa City; and
~l~,~, many Iowa communities have fo,,ed Census 2000
Committees to promote 100 percent participation in the Census.
t~ffe{0re, I, Ernest W. Lehman, Mayor of the City of Iowa City,
Iowa, do hereby proclaim Census 2000 as a top priority for all
elected and appointed officials, and support the new Census 2000
Committee in their effort to encourage the community to place an
emphasis on partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau in achieving
an accurate and complete count in Census 2000.
