bicyclin as a viable mode of transportation and to promote safe and

· n5erea , the League of American Bicyclists has established May as American
Bicycle Month;

in early cancer detection, treatment, and research; and
~][~eFe~t~, between 1991 and 1995 the national cancer death rate fell 2.6%; and
~eFe~t~, over one million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the
United States this year; and
erea , the great city of Iowa City has an active, productive cancer survivor
population, demonstrating that a cancer diagnosis is no longer an automatic death
sentence.
Now, therefore, I, Ernest W. Lehman, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do
hereby proclaim May 15, 1999, to be
