Experience and/or activities which you feel qualify you for this position.
Most of my professional life has been spent working for Boards of Directors. I have also
served on many boards, including holding officer positions. I understand the relationship
of a board to the Executive Director of an organization very well. In addition this
experience has helped me understand the duties and responsibilities of a Director to the
organization. I have training in Policy Governance, which provides a framework for
Board/Management relationships in non-profit institutions.
In my role as chief executive of a growing business I have responsibility for strategic
planning, annual budgets and financial forecasts. This experience is helpful in dealing~
with similar issues at the library.
What is your present knowledl~e of this advisory board? :<
~_..
zS: ::-~: --
I am just completing a six-year term on the Library Board of Trustees. I have served asc~
President of the Board for two years and as Treasurer for two years. I have also served on
the Building Committee of the Board, which has been researching appropriate methods of
expanding our facility. I have an excellent working knowledge of the Board and its
responsibilities.
What contributions do you feel you can make to this advisory board?
The library is at a critical point in its expansion planning. I have been actively involved
in this issue for the past six years including serving as Co-chair of the Local
Options/Local Opportunities committee which advocated the passage of a local option
sales tax as a method to fund the library expansion. As I mentioned, I have served on the
Building Committee of the board which has dealt with this issue in depth. I am very
familiar with both the needs of the library and the difficulties it faces in determining an
expansion plan. I would like to see this process brought to a successful conclusion.
In addition, libraries across the country are facing critical issues and choices as the
method of delivering services and the demands of library patrons change due to new
technologies such as the Internet. The Iowa City Public Library is no different. I have
served on the past two Strategic Planning Committees for the ICPL. They provided an
in-depth review of library operations, our community and trends in library services. This
is really interesting and stimulating information. I would welcome the opportunity to
continue to play a role in developing policy for our library in the face of societal and
technological change.
Thank you for you attention in this matter.

Re: Riverfront and Natural Areas Commission membership
Dear Dan:
Per our conversations, we have agreed that you will step down as a member of the Riverfront and Natural
Areas Commission due to your commitments outside the commission. Attendance at commission meetings
is very important and the absence policy is specifically outlined in the commission's by-laws. A letter of
resignation has been requested from you by myself and the commission's staff liaison Brad Neumann. We
have not yet received such a letter, therefore, this letter will serve as your official resignation. A copy of
this letter will be forwarded to the Iowa City City Council and the Iowa City Clerk's office so they can post
the appropriate notice to fill your seat on the commission.
I regret that your service on the commission did not work out. If you have any questions or comments,
please give Brad Neumann a call at 356-5235.
Sincerely,
Lynn Rose
