Since I will no longer be living in Johnson County, I want to turn over my seat to another community member. I want to commend the Public Art Advisory Committee for the outstanding job they are doing for Iowa City. I have been very proud to have served with all the members. With their consistent good will, hard work, and intelligence, we have accomplished a great deal in very little time, and I think the City of Iowa City is well on the way to having an outstanding public art program. The City Council should be commended for funding public art at a significant level, thus demonstrating their commitment to a program that will excite and delight the community. My hat is off to everyone on the committee for working so well together. The committee couldn't operate effectively with Karen Franklin and the support we receive from city staff. It's great to be a volunteer when the team is good and the support is strong. I look forward to the dedication of the fountain on the Pedestrian Mall at the end of the summer, to the placement of works of sculpture downtown in the next few years, as well as to art all over Iowa City in the years ahead. The Public P~ Advisory Committee is surely Iowa City at its productive, creative best.
