HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-07-27 Proclamationthe Iowa Institute of Hydraulic Research's Hydraulics Laboratory has
remained at the intersection of two of Iowa City's major thoroughfares in
essentially the same form since its construction in 1932; and
investigations performed at the Hydraulics Laboratory in topics such as
sediment control, water quality monitoring and modeling, watershed
protection, and fluid mechanics of pipe systems have assured the provision
of safe water for human and societal consumption; and
research conducted here has directly affected Iowa and also reached well
beyond the state's boundaries, improving the quality of drinking water and
thus the quality of life for people around the world; and
students trained at the Hydraulics Laboratory have spread techniques and
approaches developed here to nations around the globe;

Signed in Iowa City, Iowa,
this 27th day of July, 1999.
1 am Darold Albright representing the Irving Weber Days Committee and the Iowa City
Noon Lions Club.
I am here to accept this proclamation on behalf of the Irving Weber Days Committee. The
Committee has been working on this project for three or four months already and things
are shaping up for a bigger and better Irving Weber Days the second time around.
Activities will include 10 cent swim day, Classic Car Displays Memorabilia Displays,
Tours, The ice Cream Social in College Green Park along with The Stones in the Field
Band, the Mullane Irish Dancers and a musical salute by Wayne Nuezil with the emcee
being Roy Justis.
An added feature this year will be a traditional street dance to be held on Linn Street
between Market and Jefferson. Music by Doc's Big Band.
All of these activities will take place on Saturday, August 14th. Being in charge of the ice
cream part of the ice cream social, I certainly hope we aren't still experiencing anything
like this current heat wave.
These are merely a few highlights - I have jumped over many in the interest of saving
time. Posters will be posted around town next week along with small handouts containing
more details. The Committee is certainly looking for volunteers to work some of the day
shifts (only about 3 hour shifts). Contact David Schoon at the Civic Center if you can
help. 356-5200 or 356-5061
I accepts this proclamation on behalf of the Committee and thank you for your interest.
