I am writing to let you know that I am very interested in serving on the commission. I am a resident of Iowa City, having moved here from Oskaloosa, Iowa, in 1992. With the exception of the school year 1994-95, when I was a visiting professor at University of Northern Iowa, I have worked for the Iowa City Community School District since 1992 as a music teacher. My wife, Kerry, is a Language Arts teacher for ICCSD, having taught at South East Junior High School since 1991. We have two chfidren, ages 30 and 27. My interest in serving on the Airport Commission is two-fold: flying and local government. After years of thinking about becoming a private pfiot, I finally did something about it and began lessons at Iowa City Flying Service in November of 1995. I later shifted to Green Castle Aero Club, north and east of Oxford, Iowa, and completed my training last summer, earning a private pilot license July 1st. Though I have not yet been involved in govern- ment at any level, I have been elected or appointed to various professional and community positions, especially during my fourteen years living in Oskaloosa and teaching there at William Penn College. With me, what you see is what you get; I do not operate with hidden agendas. As you may imagine, I am a proponent of general aviation, that is, flying for the pleasure of it. I am also, however, supportive of the business aspects of aviation, and I am always tuned into the needs of the community, especially that portion of the public living near something such as an airport.
