Historic Preservation Commission are co-sponsoring Historic
Preservation Week; and
~!~l~reRgt, historic preservation gives Americans a deeper understanding
of their richly diverse architectural and cultural heritage; and
~e~R~ historic prese~ation promotes local communi~ pride in
America's towns, cities and rural areas; and
~r~H~ Iowa CiW has many historically and architecturally significant
neighborhoods, homes, commercial buildings, and public structures,
which contribute to the qualiW of our life; and
~r~ it is impo~ant to protect and prese~e our ciW's historic
resources for the use and enjoyment of current and future cit~ens; and
~ere~ Historic Prese~ation Week provides an oppoHuniW for all
Iowa Citians to celebrate our communi~'s historic treasures;

increase educational endeavors to stop the AIDS epidemic; and

}Oerea~ almost seven hundred and ~f~ thousand Americans have been diagnosed with AIDS; and
~ere~ five hundred thousand of those people have already perished; and
~r~ the world recognizes those lost to the disease and
demonstrates our support and caring for those living with the

~r~, fair pay equity policies can be implemented simply and without undue
costs; and
~r~, the struggle for pay equity is p~ of America's evolving sense of what is

~r~, May 11, 2000, symbolizes the day on which the wages paid to ~erican
women so far in 2000, when added to women's e~ings for all of 1999, finally equal the
1999 earnings of American men.
