i~[I~l~rl~l!t, the Coldren Retirement Residence has operated since 1910 to
provide elderly persons a comfortable place to call home; and
:~llJl~fi~tllt, the 130 year old building housing the Coldren Retirement
Residence was recently rehabilitated using federal and state funds and is
celebrating 90 years of service in the year 2000; and
:~]l~l~r~lillt, Iowa city recognizes that the Coldren Retirement Residence is a
non-profit organization in parmership with local government and other
community organizations, and relies heavily on the dedication and
goodwill of their combined efforts; and
i~t[Jl~rl~tllt, the week of August 14-20, 2000, has been designated as a time of
recognition and appreciation of the Coldren Retirement Residence;

Amendment, giving women in the United States of America the right to vote;
and
i~hl~rl~tllt, Emma J. Harvat was the first female Mayor of Iowa City and the first
woman to serve as Mayor in any city in the United States with a population
-.-over 10,000; and
i~]hl~rl~tLIt, Mayor Harvat brought a business-like sense of order and efficiency to
local government that is reflected in how the City of Iowa City conducts itself
today; and
il~]hl~rl~tllt, Emma J. Harvat founded the Iowa City Professional and Business-
Women's League that had 300 members in its first year, whose goals were to
provide scholarships for women students, educational lectures, and to be an
employment agency for women;
