cancer and 460 will die from the disease; and
i[~l~!~rl~llt, early detection could spare as many as one-third of those lives.
But research shows that only a small percentage of women in Iowa are
getting screening mammograms in accordance with nationally accepted
guidelines; and
i[ll]ll~l~rl~l!t, the American Cancer Society recommends screening for breast
cancer including a routine mammography, examination by a physician, and
monthly breast self-examination.

aware that they are at risk for breast cancer and to check with their doctors

this program.

Graduation Class and was the first "formal" exchange student hosted by
City High through the American Field Service Program; and
]lllI~rl~l!t, Merete eagerly shared her Danish background and traditions within the school and the Iowa City community; and
]l]l~l~rl~lllt, since retuming to Denmark, Merete has hosted City High students and friends who enjoyed her Danish hospitality; and
~1~1~1'1~It8, Merete has been an elementary teacher in Denmark since 1961 and
will be celebrating with City High Classmates their 40th Class Reunion this
weekend; and
11]1~1~1'1~t~, Merete was first exposed to football while visiting Iowa City and will
be enjoying both City High and University of Iowa Homecoming football
games during her visit here this weekend; and
11]~1~I'~t18, it is only fitting that the Iowa City Community welcome back the City
High Class of 1960 and especially Merete Nielsen Balsvig.
