But research shows that only a small percentage of women in Iowa are getting screening mammograms in accordance with nationally accepted guidelines; and i[ll]ll~l~rl~l!t, the American Cancer Society recommends screening for breast cancer including a routine mammography, examination by a physician, and monthly breast self-examination. ihI_lllll, fl/l~rl~fllrl?, in reco nition of the important, life-saving early detection practices available ~r breast cancer, I, Ernest W. Lehman, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2000 to be i reast {gancer Awareness :Mouth and October 20, 2000, as in Iowa City, and in doing so, encourage all women in Iowa City to become aware that they are at risk for breast cancer and to check with their doctors to see whether they should get a marnmogram.
