I offer my::, !: :~'. ' ---'""I knowledge and services for training or other educational activities. Also, I wot:ild. L~e a:22 quick study due to my background. There is a commercial sector involvemen{'-~tt,~t requires a firm understanding and close monitoring to be able to sustain solid~aste as~ a successful public utility. An in-depth understanding of the industry is essential for careful planning and recommendations to the Council, better sooner rather than later. I encourage new ideas and consider the Solid Waste Commission meetings the place to openly discuss any and all ideas. Members should be free to suggest and deliberate, initiating topics that may be too politically charged for elected officials. Commissions and Boards can have open discussions where politicians fear to tread'. Additionally, Commission work, as I have learned from many years of volunteer board work is the fine art of facilitating various agendas. These are most easily meshed when good listening and tools of continuous improvement are applied to effective planning. I am committed to and trained in both quality management and project management. I would engage these attributes as a Commission member and facilitate their use in meetings. Lastly, while I don't think my citizen membership on the East Central Iowa Council of Governments Board creates a conflict of interest it is important to mention. For two plus terms I have served as a citizen on the ECICOG Board via JCCOG. For 10 years I served Ex-Officio on ECICOG's Solid Waste Technical Advisory Committee, collaborating on the Regional Comprehensive Plan(s) as well as other matters. My experience offers the IC Solid Waste Commission an enhanced view from a regional perspective. The State of Iowa has encouraged a regional approach since the inception of solid waste legislation. I am solidly committed to a comprehensive regional view of the future. I hope you find value in these points, my experience and take advantage of my enthusiasm. I am particularly interested in the first year of the Commission, but would serve a longer term if you wish. Mostly I am interested in helping get the Commission running while developing solid waste expertise among others. I was accepted on the IC Parks & Recreation Commission this summer, thinking that I could fill a needed gap while waiting the beginning of the Solid Waste Commission in January. As it turns out, the terms overlap by several months. This may disqualify me for one, but does not limit my interest in seeing the development of thoughtful citizen input where you choose for me to serve. Thank you for your consideration of my application. ~/VS~ N SPECIFIC ATTENTION SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO A POSSIBLE CONFLICT OF INTEREST.
