Comment: Bids were opened on November 8, 2005 with six bids received, of which four were disqualified as being incomplete. Gabe's Construction Co., Inc. Michels Corp., $114,900.00 $230,899.00 The lowest responsive bidder was Gabe's Construction of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, with a bid of $114,900.00. Both bids exceeded the original Engineer's estimate. After analysis and survey of bidders, It was determined that the original Engineer's estimate was low due to previously unconsidered factors, such as the need to keep the area safe for the high number of pedestrians in that area; the requirement that no more than one block of Burlington be closed at a time; the requirement to replace concrete within 48 hours of removal; additional traffic control devices required for work on a State highway; and inclement weather expenses. Therefore, the Engineer's estimate has been recalculated to $113,821.00. The Parking fund will be financing 70% of this project, and 30% will be from the General Fund (Court Street Transportation Center). The lowest responsive bidder has done prior satisfactory work on similar City projects. Staff recommends award of this project at this time. ~:/jfr-~ ITEM NO.5 CONSIDER A MOTION TO ADJOURN THE SPECIAL MEETING. Action: ~~AUJI~/ ~ ~/~ 7:~5 Subject to change as finalized by the City Clerk.
