HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-02-28 Appointment ~ NOTICE THE CITY COUNCil OF IOWA CITY IS CONSIDERING APPOINTMENT TO THE FOllOWING COMMISSION: AIRPORT COMMISSION One Vacancy - Six-yr Term March 1, 2006 - March 1, 2012 Duties: To exercise all the powers granted to cities and towns under Chapter 330 of the Code of Iowa, except the power to sell said airport. To annually certify the amount of taxes within the limitations of the Statutes of the State of Iowa to be levied for Airport purposes. All funds derived from taxation or otherwise for airport purposes shall be under the full and absolute control of the Airport Commission, deposited with the City Treasurer, and disbursed only on the written warrants or order of the Airport Commission. Iowa City-appointed members of boards and commissions must be eligible electors of the City of Iowa City. The Airport Commission meets the second Thursday of each month at 5:45 p.m. Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 22, 2006. I understand that the Airport Commission has duties to maintain, develop, and manage the Iowa City Airport and it's land. That the commission also has to annually certify airport levies. I'm committed to a fiscally sound and vital airport that contributes to the overall well-being of all of our citizens and businesses. I believe the airport is vital to a healthy and growing community, not only to the flying community. I believe in sound financial management. I am not a private pilot, although years ago I did take lessons. My interest in local goverrnment and citizen involvement extends to having commissions fully filled.
