Your request to have the system classified as a Protected Premises (Local) Fire Alarm System is denied. The fire alarm system shall be required to additionally meet the requirements for a Remote Supervising Station Fire Alarm System to transmit alarm, supervisory, and trouble signals to a remote location. The information provided in your facsimile accurately portrays the 60-hour standby power supply capacity for remote supervising station alarms as a distinction that sets it apart. The requirements of NFPA 72, 1-5.2.6 clearly state, "...the secondary supply shall have sufficient capacity to operate a remote station system for 60 hours; and, at the end of that period, shall be capable of operating all alarm notification appliances used for evacuation or to direct aid to the location of an emergency for 5 minutes." In conclusion, the fire alarm system for the Sheraton Hotel of Iowa City shall be required to meet or exceed the secondary power supply provisions for a Remote Supervising Station Fire Alarm System. ! hope this letter clarifies our position and allows you to proceed with plans to comply.
