PROCLAMATION
Whereas, our founding members did ordain and establish the Iowa City
Community Theatre; and
Whereas, the Iowa City Community Theatre is a not for profit community
organization dedicated to promoting the dramatic arts in the Iowa City
area; and
Whereas, the Iowa City Community Theatre strives to provide an open
avenue for individual creative expression through participation in all
aspects of producing high quality amateur theatrical presentations; and
Whereas, the Iowa City Community Theatre is celebrating its
50th Anniversary Season, 2005-2006,
Now, therefore, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City ofIowa City, Iowa
do hereby proclaim the week of April 24-30, 2006, to be
Iowa City Community Theatre Week
in Iowa City and urge all citizens to reflect during that week on the many
benefits that such organizations contribute to the cultural life ofIowa City.

Whereas, the coming of Spring produces a renewal of interest in tree
planting for beauty, shade, conservation, and many other purposes
beneficial to all people, and
Whereas, the observation of Arbor Day has long been characterized by the
planting and preservation of trees, and
Whereas, we hope that the future will see the creation of a better
environment through the use of trees throughout our cities, towns and
countryside, and
Whereas, trees in Iowa City beautifY our community, increase property
values, and enhance the economic vitality of business areas,
Now, therefore, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City ofIowa City, Iowa,

Whereas, professionals who practice in the public health laboratory,
including chemists, microbiologists, laboratory scientists, medical
technologists, and laboratory technicians, are invaluable members of
the health care team; and
Whereas, these well-educated and highly-trained health professionals who
perform and evaluate laboratory tests to detect disease, diagnose
illness, ensure food and water safety, identify disease outbreaks, and
prevent diseases, affect countless lives each day; and
Whereas, their dedication to quality testing and public health is
demonstrated daily in numerous laboratories in Well-being; and
Whereas, laboratory medicine is an honorable profession, vital to
sustaining a high standard of health care and public health;
Now therefore, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City ofIowa City, Iowa do

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, millions of volunteers working in their communities utilize their time and
talent daily to make a real difference in the lives of children and adults; and
WHEREAS, the entire community can effect positive change with any volunteer
action, big or small; and
WHEREAS, volunteers connect with local community service opportunities through
hundreds of community service organizations, like the Volunteer Administrator's Network;
and
WHEREAS, during this week, all over the nation, service projects will be performed
and volunteers will be recognized for their commitment to community service; and
WHEREAS, volunteers are vital to our future as a caring and productive nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City ofIowa City, Iowa, do
hereby proclaim April 23-29, 2006 to be

in Iowa City, and urge citizens to contribute to their community.

PROCLAMATION
Whereas, millions of youth from all 50 states and the District of Columbia will
participate in the 18th Annual National & Global Youth Service Days, April 21-
23,2006; and
Whereas, the City of Iowa City established a Youth Advisory Commission in
November, 2005 to promote understanding and awareness of Iowa City among
our community youth; and
Whereas, the Youth Advisory Commission allows a select group of youth to make
decisions concerning them and their peers, enables members to utilize and expand
on their leadership abilities, serves as a mechanism for communication between
youth and adults in our community, and creates a bridge whereon youth and
adults can develop partnerships; and
Whereas, young people should be viewed as the hope not only of the future, but also
of today, and should be valued for the idealism, energy, creativity, and
commitment they bring to the challenges found in their communities.
Now, therefore, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do
hereby proclaim, April 21-23, 2006, as
National Youth Service Days
in Iowa City, and commend all the youth volunteers of our community for their devoted
