PROCLAMATION
Whereas, nearly 46 million Americans - one out of every seven - do not have health
care coverage;
Whereas, eight out of 10 uninsured people are in working families;
Whereas, there are more than 8 million children in America without health care
coverage;
Whereas, uninsured Americans will live less healthy lives;
Whereas, as costs continue to rise, fewer individuals and families can afford to pay for
health care coverage and fewer small businesses are able to provide health care coverage for
their employees,
Now, therefore, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City ofIowa City, Iowa, do hereby
proclaim May 1-7 to be
Health Care Coverage for the Uninsured Week

WHEREAS, on behalf of the citizens of Iowa City, I am honored to
proclaim May 6-12 as "National Visiting Nurse Association Week";
and
WHEREAS, the Visiting Nurse Association provides community-based,
home health care services to the residents of Johnson County; and
WHEREAS, The Visiting Nurses care for patients of all ages-from
infants to elderly, including those who are chronically ill, disabled and
unable to pay for medical care; and
WHEREAS, I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to the Visiting
Nurse Association for their commitment and dedication to the well
being of the citizens of the City ofIowa City.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City of Iowa
City, Iowa, do hereby offer this Proclamation in recognition of
National Visiting Nurse Association Week
and I encourage all citizens to join me in this commendation and wish them
continued success in the future.

PROCLAMATION
Whereas, the bicycle is an economical, environmentally sound, and effective
means of transportation, recreation, and fitness; and
Whereas, the bicycle is a legitimate vehicle in all 50 states and is entitled to
legal and responsible use of all public roads in Iowa, except interstate
highways; and
Whereas, increased use ofthe bicycle will benefit all citizens by improving air
quality, reducing traffic congestion and noise, decreasing use of and
dependence upon finite energy resources and will foster healthy lifestyles; and
Whereas, the City of Iowa City has an ongoing commitment to encourage
bicycling asa viable mode oftransportation and recreation; and
Whereas, the League of American Bicyclists has established the month of May
as American Bicycle Month, and the week of May 15 as Bike to Work Week.
Now, therefore, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City ofIowa City, Iowa, do
hereby proclaim the month of May 2006 to be

in Iowa City, and encourage all citizens to ride their bicycles to work, to the store,
to the park, and with friends and family to promote the benefits achieved from

generation will soon turn 65 and our theme "Aging Without Limits" for the
2006 Older Americans Month reflects the positive impact of our growing
senior population on the economic, social and cultural vitality of our county
and community, and
WHEREAS, older Americans, through their legacy of patriotism, service
and responsibility, bring communities together and serve as role models for
younger generations,
