HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-10-11 ProclamationCity of Iowa City PROCLAMATION Whereas, the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (LTNISDR) is marking the "International Day for Disaster Reduction" on October 13, 2010 with the theme "Making Cities Resilient: My City is Getting Ready!"; and Whereas, UNISDR is calling upon cities around the globe to recognize the significant day; and Whereas, Iowa City has been severely impacted by disasters in the past (e.g., 2006 tornado and 2008 flood) and risk for future disasters remains a pressing reality; and Whereas, Iowa City should take the opportunity to: showcase its unique resilience and solidarity when faced with disasters, commemorate its recovery after the recent flood, and recognize that all citizens of Iowa City play a role in mitigating, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters that may occur in the future; Now, therefore, I, Matthew J. NOW, Therefore, I, Matthew J.
