o Requires cities & counties to provide for
final disposal
o Plan must be updated every five years
(recent change from every 3 years)

i. Promote a significant unifying goal to the
"Exceed 50% waste reduction by 2017."

2. As a function of the comp plan, establish a local
committee to evaluate progress toward goals.
s. Promote and expand waste reduction and
recycling education activities. (EXAMPLE to

4. Expand use of Iowa City Landfill's Regional
Collection Center (RCC) for hazardous waste

o Comp plan will set goals for waste
reduction, recycling, education, etc.
o Resolution will be before Council
