ITEM 1. CALL TO ORDER.
ROLL CALL.
ITEM 2. CONSIDER AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1 -9 -313 OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF IOWA CITY, IOWA, ESTABLISHING THE BOUNDARIES OF THE
I ^ L4 1A 42, VOTING PRECINCTS IN IOWA CITY; AND SECTION 1 -5 -1 OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF IOWA CITY, IOWA, ESTABLISHING THE VOTING PRECINCTS
THAT COMPRISE THE THREE CITY COUNCIL DISTRICTS IN IOWA CITY, AND
REPEALING ORD. 11 -4441. (SECOND CONSIDERATION)
Comment: The new voting precincts and City Council district boundaries reflecting
population changes of the 2010 Census were drawn up and reviewed by the Johnson
County Commissioner of Elections and adopted August 2. Technical corrections were
requested by the Secretary of State prior to September 1, and the revised ordinance
reflects the changes requested. New precinct boundaries become effective January
2012, and do not affect the November 2011 election. A public hearing was previously
held July 12. Staff requests expedited action to allow filing with the Secretary of State
prior to September 1.

ITEM 3. CONSIDER MOTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SIGN A LETTER OF
AGREEMENT WITH JOHNSON COUNTY ALLOWING SELECTED TOWNSHIP
RESIDENTS TO VOTE WITH SELECTED IOWA CITY PRECINCTS.
Comment: This agreement allows township voters the ability to vote at a nearby
location and meets the intent of provisions in Chapter 49 granting cities and counties
the power to combine townships and city precincts as long as the population does not
exceed 3500 and the combined precinct is wholly within a legislative district. Township
voters will vote separate township ballots and are not eligible to vote in City of Iowa
City municipal elections.
