The committee's two main goals are to determine where we want to be in terms of transit service in the next 20 years and what steps should be taken to get there. Each MPO JC Board voting entity is being asked to appoint one person to the committee. We suggest that the appointee have some knowledge or interest in transit and be available for monthly meetings. The appointee does not need to be an elected official. The attached memorandum provides further information regarding the transit needs committee. An application is also attached that is being used by MPOJC to fill two at -large positions on the committee. Feel free to modify the application for use in your selection process. The committee has two main charges: 1. Where do we want to be in terms of transit service in the next 20 years? 2. What steps should be taken to get there? Each MPO Board voting entity is being asked to appoint one person to the committee, plus the MPO Urbanized Area Policy Board will be appointing two at -large positions. For committee appointments, we suggest that: A. The appointee has some knowledge, interest, and /or background in transit or transportation operations and public financing. B. The appointee be available for periodic (monthly) meetings. C. The appointee need not be an elected official but should be someone with willingness to consider public transit financing issues, options, and service levels. D. Staff may be, but do not need to be, appointed. If public transit operations staff are not appointed, we will invite them to the meetings for their expertise. The attached application form is for the two applicants for the at -large position. Applications will be forwarded to the MPO Urbanized Area Policy Board at their August 17 meeting for consideration.
