Dear Council Members:
With this letter, I hereby submit my resignation on the Iowa City Airport Commission effective
immediately.
I have enjoyed my time on the commission the past two years, unfortunately due to family and
business obligations in the evenings it has become more difficult to attend the required meetings.
I have notified the airport manager as well as the current chair of the commission.
Sincerely,
Steve Crane

Dear Steve:
Since I was a long time member of the non - profit community, my company, Keystone IT,
is now a technology provider to a large number of non - profits. All of them have been
applicants for assistance through CDBG and HOME funding. As you and I have
discussed, this sets up a potential conflict of interest for me. After discussing some
current situations with the City Attorney, I have decided to resign from the HCDC.
There are two problems. One is a direct conflict in some upcoming projects where
Keystone's involvement could be in violation of HUD rules. Then there are those
projects where even if we are technically clear of a conflict of interest, there could be a
perception of one. Perception, of course, is just as bad for all concerned as a real
conflict of interest. The best solution is for me to resign from the HCDC.
I have enjoyed my three plus years on the commission and believe that we did a very
good job in allocating a lot of money during my time on the commission.
I hope that in your search for a replacement, a member of the business community can
be found. I believe that someone from the business community is required to achieve a
mix on the commission that is truly reflective of the City of Iowa City. I have a couple of
people in mind and will encourage them to apply.
A big thank you to you and Tracy for your good work in supporting the HCDC. Without
your knowledge and hard work, the HCDC would not be able to function as well as it
does.
Sincerely,
