FBI NATIONAL ACADEMY ASSOCIATES TRAINING SESSION
(August 5-7)

Annual re-training for graduates of the national academy, this year's topics included legal
updates, managing change, improving memory, and other police managemem topics.
Attendance also enables solidifying valuable contacts of other National Academy
graduates.
CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION INVESTIGATIONS
(August 10-14)
Appleton, Wisconsin
Officer pr°taskey
Officer Protaskey is assigned the majority of the police department investigations
regarding exploitation of children. This course covered all aspects of working these types
of cases from intake to court testimony. As a sample, investigators are taught the different
types of exploitation, characteristics of offenders, interviewing and interrogation
techniques, legal issues & Federal statutes.
FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR RECERTIFICATION
(August 17-18)
Iowa Law Enforcement Academy
Officer Duffy
As one of three department firearms instructors, this training is necessary to maintain his
certification through the State of Iowa. The instruction focuses on basics as well as recent
trends in legal and use of force issues. As a certified instructor, he shares responsibility for
the twice-yearly firearms instruction for all Iowa City Officers.
SPECIAL RESPONSE TEAM TRAINING
(August 18)

16 SPT Officers-1 absent
Members critiqued their most recent activity, the search warrant at 630 S. Capital. They
then went to the Prentiss Street address and practiced covert and dynamic entries. All
members were familiarized with and given opportunity to discharge a variety of less-than-
lethal munitions.
FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR RECERTIFICATION
(August 20-21)
Iowa Law Enforcement Academy
Officer Cox
This is the same training as offered on August 17-18. As one of three department firms
instructors, this training is necessary to maintain his certification through the State of
Iowa. The instruction focuses on basics as well as recent trends in legal and use of force
issues. As a certified instructor, he shares responsibility for the bi-annual firearms
instruction for all Iowa City Officers.
