SUBJECT: January & February Use of Force Review
The bi-monthly "Use o£Force Review Committee met on May 11, 2000. It was
composed o£ the £ollowing personnel;

The review of submitted reports for January (22 incidents - 31 reports) and February (14
incidents - 20 reports) revealed no policy or training concerns. Two issues were revealed
that need to be clarified. When officers are called upon to "put down" an injured/sick
animal, it is department policy that it must be cleared with a supervisor - make sure that
contact is noted on the use of force form. Also, officers are forgetting to be specific on
the type of indicate... "arrest" is not specific. Noted reports are being returned to the
respective Watch Commanders.
Of the 36 recorded incidents for this two-month period, 6 were the result of officers being
called to put down injured animals.
