Youth Recognition Grant
Application
Purpose
CITY OF IOWA CITY
To provide grants to deserving junior high students who have demonstrated leadership,
involvement, and creativity.
Awards
Two $250 savings bonds will be awarded to students selected by the members of the City of
Iowa City Youth Advisory Commission.
Eligibility
1. Applicant must be a junior high student in the seventh or eighth grade.
2. Applicant must be a resident of Iowa City.
Requirements
1. Completed application form.
2. One letter of recommendation.
3. Essay of 300 or more words, answering the question in the application.

Applicants are required to submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or
community leader, preferably someone with a significant knowledge of the applicant's
leadership and involvement.

In 1905, an 11 year -old named Frank Epperson left his fruit flavored soda outside on the porch
with a stir stick in it. The drink froze overnight, and the next morning he discovered the frozen
treat. Originally called the "Epsicle," it was later renamed the "Popsicle."
Write about a time you found something you weren't looking for.
