Re: Item for June 19th, 2012 City Council meeting; Installation of NO PARKING ANY
TIME signs on the east side of Dublin Drive from Melrose Avenue to Tipperary Road.
As directed by Title 9, Chapter 1, Section 3B of the City Code, this is to advise the City Council
of the following action.
Action:
Pursuant to Section 9 -1 -3A (10); Install NO PARKING ANY TIME signs on the east side of
Dublin Drive from Melrose Avenue to Tipperary Road.
Comment:
This action is being taken to reduce congestion caused by the recent increase in on- street
parking demand on both sides of Dublin Drive during the daytime when the school district is in
session. The City had received multiple concerns from residents. Fire and Police concur that
removing parking on one side will improve emergency vehicle access. Dublin Drive residents
were surveyed; there was no clear preference for which side of the street to remove parking on,
therefore the east side of the road was selected as it is the location of fire hydrants.

Long time activist Gary Sanders had this commemt: "I am aware that because of Coralville's irresponsible
TIF's, the lack of a meaningful TIF bill in the last session of the Iowa Legislature, and the Iowa Supreme
Court's ruling on the potential lowering of taxation of apartment buildings, the City of Iowa City needs more
taxable properties. But I am curious why the City has to financially help a developer who would seem to be able
to raise the money to build this project on his own."

Subject: Burning tires and the police
This correspondence will become a public record.
Enough is enough! The burning tires at the dump has tried my patience. It's Sunday and once again I feel swamped
with the foul smell. Why hasn't sand been dumped on the tires or some type of chemicals. I pay 4500 dollars a year in
taxes along with garbage fees and this is a crock of dung. I would like this cleanup paid out of current the Iowa City
Sanitation funds and if you have dip into the general fund, oh well. This means no real estate tax increase or other
taxes. I pay enough in fines, tickets and other dung charges made up by the City. If this requires laying off staff, reducing
bonuses for city employees, I don't care. I will be also sending responses to the state and the EPA.
Sorry, my son and I have reaped enough abuses from the UIHC, Manville and City cops to last a lifetime. My son has
been pulled over 28 times since he has been 16 (now 25). 1 myself have had at least one stop every six months and it's
getting very old. I mention this because this is how the city has been generating a large amount of extra revenue. Well
it the "dump fire" is going to cost additional money, layoff a cop.
Now if you want "have" to pay for the "dump fire by raising my taxes, it will be fine if you lay off 10 percent of the
police and keep the UIHC cops on they frigging territory. If I have to put up with a foul smell, then remove the foul sight
of seeing officers in car scanning license plates, radar guns and traffic stops. We had a saying in Navy, "Nevy Chiefs are
like flies, they eat dung all day and bother people" and he is another one for seagulls "they eat on the government, dung
on the government and are protected by the government ". This is how I feel about our Police.
To sum up, stop the tire fire, and if you do that would be great. If it's going to cost 4 million dollars, lay off cops and
city workers.

Dear Council Members,
U(S)
When Idyllwild was "finally" approved for development in 1992 it was after many attempts and battles kith the citizens of Iowa City,
Planning and Zoning etc. Plans for truck stops, student housing and "mature" student housing were all rejected. Approval was finally
given by the Iowa City Council (on split vote) to build senior citizen or retirement condominiums. If that was the case and the history
how do we explain and justify the following advertisement?

Subject: Eastside Express Bus
Hello to each and every one of you.
My name is Barb and I have been an active rider on the Eastside Express bus since its 2005 inception. Back then it was in
a trial period of sorts, to gauge ridership and need. Back then, many of the homes and most of the condominiums in the
Stonehenge area (east of Scott Blvd. and off of Court St.) had not yet been built or occupied. Ridership was at times
scarce, but within a few months I noticed a steadily increasing number of people taking this bus as word got out of its
existence. Prior to the Eastside Express bus, anyone living east of Scott Blvd. and off of Court St. wanting or needing to
take the city bus had to walk the mile (or more!) to the Court Hill bus stop located at Friendship and Court Streets and
take the Court Hill bus in.
Seven years have passed, and unfortunately, the Eastside Express bus route has not grown with the times. In fact, it
remains exactly as it did when it first started, even though the development it serves is now densely populated. Today
the Eastside Express has a robust ridership, and many times during morning and evening hours it's so crowded there's
standing -room only for some riders. In the Stonehenge Condominiums, on which I am a board member, we have many
students living here, as well as hospital and university employees. Our condominium association alone has 96 units
concentrated in a very small area. But because we live where Court Street ends at Taft Blvd., we are a good long ways
from downtown and find ourselves in a conundrum when faced with getting home from work and school in the
evenings. This is because the last Eastside Express bus leaving downtown during the weekdays leaves at 6:15 p.m., even
though buses servicing other areas operate through the 9 p.m. hour. During morning and evening rush hour, many buses
run every half hour. Not so with the Eastside Express, which still runs hourly. And getting downtown at all on Saturdays
(and on weekdays when the city bus operates on a "Saturday schedule, ") on the Eastside Express is not yet a possibility,
as we have no bus service at all on Saturdays.
As a densely populated and highly -taxed area, I believe our ridership numbers have proven the need for expanded bus
service to this area. We need evening transportation to and from downtown beyond the last bus currently scheduled to
leave Old Capitol Mall at 6:15 p.m. A number of riders depending on the Eastside Express, myself included, who leave
later at night have had to take the Court Hill bus, exit at the Court and Friendship intersection, and then walk the mile -
plus to get home. Not to sound back -in- the -day, but during the winter it's cold, dark, and there are long stretches of
empty fields that can be scary, especially for female riders.
In addition to expanded hours and Saturday service, we also need some kind of a bus shelter out here. I would suggest
one at the bus stop located at corner of Huntington and Court Streets, where riders have to wait on the concrete top of
a sewer surrounded by an empty field, with nothing to break the wind or provide shelter from the rain and snow.
I understand the Iowa City Transit is planning to reconfigure its routes this summer, and I hope they and you will take
the Eastside Express riders' needs into consideration. Over the last seven years, the population this route serves has
outgrown its bus service. Please help those of us who depend on the city bus for transportation and those of us who
want to participate and support mass transportation be able to use it dependably.
Thank you.

I am a lot and trailer owner at forest view trailer ct Since Nov 20111 was given a 1964 trailer

After less than 6 months I was ask to leave NO reason given ,No legal eviction notice
Owner refused to talk to me or my lawyer. I was inform that the civil rights laws do not cover
trailer courts. Iowa is part of the U.S. but trailer courts are exempt?
I am a Disable homeless Vet ,the $20,0000.00 would be my only chance to get a nice place to stay
BUT how can I feel safe from eviction and rob of my federal funds by these HITLER type rules.
these people can steal federal fund from all after the place is up to code.
I believe that TRAILER COURT owners and there property should not be included unless the laws are
changed in Iowa.

Janelle,
Thank you for inquiring about the "Living in Iowa City" guide to local services and resources. We are currently exploring
our options for updating this document and expect that a new issue or other similar type of offering for our residents
will made available in the next 12 months. Once that is publication is developed we will be sure to make sure your office
receives an adequate number to distribute.
We appreciate your efforts to help familiarize your customers with the community. Please do not hesitate to contact

We have some books here in the office entitle "Living in Iowa City" that are guides to city resources and
services. It looks like it was put out by the City Council. The books we have appear to have been done in
2009. I'm wondering if this is something that you still put out, and if so is it possible to get any current
books sent to us?

Subject: t -shirt

Hi- I wrote to the president of the University of Iowa last year, and to the police chief, but they both said they
could do nothing about this ..... those stupid t -shirts that some of the students wear to football games that read
"Iowa Fucking City." When a parent or grandparent, like myself, take a child to a game, we don't want the kids
to see that. Aside from the fact that it is rude and crude, it makes the University, the city of Iowa City, and the
students and fans of Iowa athletics look stupid. I can't believe the students would want to wear something like
that, but some of them obviously do, and it is so distasteful. A city in Massachusettes, I believe, just recently
passed a law against public cursing and levee a fine against people who curse in public. If that can be upheld,
I'm sure a law banning t -shirts like the one I mentioned could be upheld as well, especially considering the
vulgarity of the word. Thank -you E Porter
