PROCLAMATION
Whereas, 2012 is the 50th anniversary of the volunteer service known as the
Mercy Hospital Guild at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City; and
Whereas, The Guild and volunteers contribute to Mercy's Mission to heal and
comfort the sick and work to improve the health of the community in the
tradition of the Sisters of Mercy; and
Whereas, From its inception the aim of Mercy Hospital Guild has been twofold:
to serve the hospital by donating time and talent and by providing financial
support; and
Whereas, Volunteers contribute approximately 30,000 hours of service,
annually, in all areas of the hospital; and
Whereas, The Mercy Hospital Guild is the largest annual donor to the Mercy
Hospital Foundation; and
Whereas, The Mercy Hospital Guild has contributed more than $2.6 million
dollars over the Guild's 50 -year history.
Now, therefore, I, Matthew J. Hayek, Mayor of Iowa City do hereby
acknowledge 2012 as
THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MERCY
HOSPITAL GUILD
and congratulate the Guild and their volunteers, and encourage the citizens of
Iowa City to join in celebrating these achievements and milestones.
