PROCLAMATION
Whereas, Kevin O'Malley started his career as a public service employee in the
City of Traer in October 1977, and was hired as Iowa City's Assistant
Finance Director in 1985, and named Finance Director in October 1999; and
Whereas, Kevin O'Malley has maintained the City of Iowa City's coveted AAA
bond rating, a designation shared by only 4 cities in Iowa and 196 cities in
the United States, and ensuring the City receives the most favorable interest
rates available; and
Whereas, under Kevin O'Malley's guidance the City has received the Certificate
of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from 1985 to the
present and in 2012 was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation
Award by the Government Finance Officers Association for its 2012 -13
budget; and
Whereas, Iowa City wishes to recognize Kevin's leadership, dedication, and
commitment to public service in Iowa and in our community for over 36
years.
Now, therefore, I, Matthew J. Hayek, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, declare
Friday, January 25, 2013 as:
Kevin O'Malley Day
in Iowa City and wish him well in retirement with an Irish blessing: "May you
have warm words on a cold evening, a full moon on a dark night and a smooth
road all the way to your door."
