To hear and decide appeals where it is alleged there is an error in any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by an administrative official in the enforcement of the Airport Zoning Chapter. 2. To hear and decide special exceptions to the terms of the Airport Zoning Chapter upon which such board is required to pass under the Airport Zoning Chapter. 3. To authorize upon appeal in specific cases such variance from the terms of the Airport Zoning Chapter as will not be contrary to the public interest, where owing to special conditions a literal enforcement of the provisions of the Airport Zoning Chapter will result in unnecessary hardship, and so that the spirit of the Airport Zoning Chapter shall be observed and substantial justice done. The three homes I have owned have been located in mixed rental /owner occupied neighborhoods. I have experienced directly how design and planning have had an impact, both good and bad, on the quality of life of the area residents. My three children have all attended school in the Iowa City District and have experienced the impact city planning and design have on neighborhood schools. As a former adjunct and teaching assistant in Health and Sport Studies, I am aware how the `walkability' and other aspects of the design of an area may have an impact on the health and wellbeing of the residents. Asper the information listed on the City of Iowa City website, I know the board is `charged with making recommendations to the City Council regarding amendments, supplements, changes, and modifications to the Zoning Ordinance'. I would assume a good working knowledge of all aspects related to this process, such as the Comprehensive Plan, zoning ordinances, and plans and requests would be required of board members What contributions can you make to this advisory board(reason for applying)? Concern for and sensitivity to the diversity of neighborhoods both in balance of green space and buildings and to all the residents served. I have knowledge regarding landscape and the health and wellness of individuals and how one's environment may have a positive or negative impact.
